I know that some doctors claim that it has better resaults than a baby born addicted to street drugs. Now if the mother comes into the program already pregnant than YES by all means help her get clean. But I also think that it should be manditory for ALL unpregnant women entering the program to be on some method of birth control. Simple as that you want the methadone get on and stay on the pill. Whats one pill a day or one shot a month compared to stopping the suffering of an innocent little baby?
Call me a Naxi but I believe in force sterilization. In general, any children born from a methadone user is bound to be screwed up.

WE ARE TAKING A BREATHER
Pharmacies in the UK distribute Methadone to Heroin users to help them to eliminate the use of heroin, reducing the death rates and criminality associated with heroin use, and allows patients to improve their health and social productivity.
Is it good in Islam to help these people? Or are we (by paying taxes) encouraging them to take heroin; and even if they do they know they can easily get help?
my partner has a severe neck problem ,when it kicks in she is in extreme pain and ends up unable to move for up to two weeks and then another two weeks to get mobile again ,she went into the chemist to pick up an emergency script for anti inflamitrese, she was in extreme pain and she was made to wait for 30min as everytime she was due to be served a junkie would come in and all non junkie customers were ignored until they were given their bit on the side methadone, now i know there are some legite people with a heavy habit that are genuinly trying to go clean but for every one thers ten topping up metadone with blues smack and any other downer they can get their hands on,and you are correct we the hard working 9-5 brigaide are footing the bill ,i resent completely this service it is a massive failure ,it is a top up funded by you and me.politicians have not got a clue as the have no concept of the street.FACT.when my lottery ticket comes in i will buy a island with bad weather as many killer infections as i can afford ,because i do,nt think the death rate should be reduced we should increase it !.no one goes down that road blind so let them reap what they sow,and save you and me a few bob i can think of a million and one things i would rather have my large tax bill spent on.they are takers and will take at every operchancity.anyone who thinks differently is unaware of how these people operate.wake up political correctness has gone way way over the top.
'Drugstore Cowboy' pleads not guilty in robbery case
James Fogle, 73, is being held on $500,000 bail and is next expected to be in court July 12.
Fogle became famous beyond police lineups by writing a novel about longtime drug users who robbed pharmacies. Filmmaker Gus Van Sant turned the unpublished novel into a movie by the same name, "Drugstore Cowboy," in 1989, and Fogle's book hit shelves the following year.
Fogle also has spent significant stretches of his adult life in prison, sometimes for committing the sort of crimes he described in his novel.
Police say on May 25, Fogle and another man were trying to steal prescription drugs from Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, at 15840 Redmond Way. It's about a half mile from the Redmond police headquarters.
Police say minutes after the pharmacy's 9 p.m. closing Tuesday, Fogle and his alleged accomplice -- who in 1986 was convicted of a sex crime -- pushed their way into the pharmacy through a back exit door after Fogle flashed a gun in his waistband.
In addition to a pink bandanna, Fogle had a hood over his head and yellow latex gloves, according to court documents. Police say the accomplice wore a dark ski mask and a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Methadone users ‘more likely to carry on injecting’
In a long-term study of nearly 800 opiate injectors presenting at a primary care clinic in Scotland between 1980 and 2007, the University of Bristol researchers found mixed signals concerning the use of opiate substitution therapy.
They found those receiving opiate substitution therapy had a 60% reduced risk of death, but taking that increased survival into account, they also had a ‘substantially’ reduced likelihood of ceasing using opiate injections, with a hazard ratio of 0.45.
The researchers – presenting the data at the annual scientific meeting of the Society for Academic Primary Care in St Andrews this month – concluded the research showed methadone and other opiate substitutes were likely to be ‘the glue that binds people to a source of help.’
The research comes after a rapid rise in the use of methadone in primary care.
Pulse revealed last year that the proportion of practices involved in the treatment of drug users had risen to 40%, fuelling a rise in methadone prescriptions from GPs of nearly 60% from 2003 to 2007 in England, at a cost of over £27m per year.
