Although there are many suggestions as to detoxing from methadone there is one thing they all agree on...It should be done slowly. Here is an exerpt from an article about detox...

I just found out when I went to get my Methadone perscription filled today that the FDA sent out advisorys to all Doctors and Pharmacies prohibiting them from perscribing or selling 40 mg Methadone after Jan.1 2008. Only Detox/Rehab centers or hospitals will have access to this drug. I personally am on 50 mg per day for pain managment & have been for 7 yrs. The nurse at my Dr. office also told me that even though the 5 & 10 mg tablets were not affected, that if any Doctor is caught writing a large perscription of the 5 or 10 mg methadone tablets for a patient, they will be turned in to the DEA. She told me they did this because they've decided that 40 mg Methadone isn't considered to be for pain managment; it is for Opiate detoxification-uh...ok(?. What are others out there in the same situation doing about this? Also, can any Dr. (like my pain mng. Dr for instance) write out a script for Subutex/Bupranorphin or would I have to go to somthing like a 2wk. Detox center? PLEASE HELP!!!

they have an obligation to treat you unless you are discharged.
I hope they gave you an equivalent medication, kadian or avinza will do just as well. Are they going to give you something else for your pain.

Is there 5 mg 10 mg 20mg in each teaspoon of the liquid methadone like the pill is 5 mg or 10mg
1mg methadone hydrochloride in 1ml of liquid
1 teaspoon is 4.9 ml
Therefore there is approximately 5mg or precisely 4.9mg in one teaspoon of liquid methadone.
In order not to get too sick I have been taking percocet. I cant even feel them. (I have them for migraines) How long will my tolerance for opiates be high? Until the methadone is completely out of my system 48 hours or longer? Thank you for your help.
Your not getting sick from stopping using a low dose like 14mg of methadone dude. When you get down that low it's in your head. You'll get over it pretty fast. The problem will probably have will be with sleeping once you get off the perc's and the methadone.
It's just a little scary because you are afraid you are going to get dope sick. It's perfectly normal to feel like that. Everyone I know that has kicked methadone goes through the same crap. But you really should try to get off the perc's if you are worried about staying addicted to opiates. But getting off the methadone is the best thing you ever did trust me. I was addicted to the crap for awhile and it took me almost a year to lower the dose until I was at 15mg. then I just stopped. But I tried to just kick cold turkey once,,, it was worse than heroin withdrawls. Methadone in my opinion is a bad drug. I've seen a lot of people go down the tubes from using it. I

If he's taking ten xanax bars and that much methadone he is really putting it all on the line to get high.
I'm serious you need to do whatever it takes to get him off that ride. He's putting his life in jeopardy. I don't know enough details to tell you what specifically to do. But he needs to be an inpatient in my opinion. He is showing no regard for life. I'm not judging, I checked myself in twice. I was blowing it too. But his behavior is unnacceptable.
