im having serious side effects with methadone and the docs dont believe it because these side effects are not heard of.
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
shallow breathing;
hallucinations or confusion; or
fast or pounding heartbeats, chest pain, trouble breathing, feeling light-headed, fainting.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as:
feeling anxious, nervous, or restless;
sleep problems (insomnia);
dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness;
dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite; or
decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm.
This list is not complete and other side effects may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
contrasts the current experiences of methadone maintenance therapy patients with their past experiences as heroin addicts. Although methadone has ...
Do you find it as a stimulant or as a sedative?
How did it affect your health?
Methadone should only be used by people trying to get off of an opiate addiction. It can just as bad for your health as heroin is. Methadone will not give you a rush. It will not make you feel up. Nor will it really sedate you. Methadone works by blocking opiate receivers in your brain. It would most likely just make you feel a little depressed.
Hope this helps!
I have tried looking the subject up online and have found a lot of information, but I can't find much from people who have actually gone through the treatment.
I am an MMT patient and I have a website with info plus there is an excellent forum called We Speak Methadone where you can talk to others on Methadone treatment with many years experience in the field. Some there are new, others have detoxed, some use Suboxone, etc. Any questions you have could be answered there or at my site. Mine is new so there aren't as many people registeredyet but feel free to use both. My URL is...

Good Luck & God Bless
I am 19 and about to come off of a 1 year opiate addiction. (Percocet, Hydrocodone) I was taking AT LEAST 10-14 percocet or hydrocodone (depending on strength) each time (bout 2-4 times a day)
I have told my family and we have all decided to put me in Rehab. and thank goodness my family is going to pay for it. I would be on the streets in another month if I kept on.
Anyways...
Will it be easy to start off with Methadone detox? Has anyone gone through this before? What Happend?
Thanks A Lot!!
I have never been through this but have an opinion. If it were me, I'd go "cold turkey" in a medical detox if needed. It takes just 3-5 days to get most substances out of your system. I would not continue with putting more drugs in your body (Methadone). You need to be drug free, make it happen. Best wishes with your recovery, you can do it. God bless.
I have been on methadone treatment for 10 years this month (started July 1999), Methadone was my last resort following 4 rehabs, more than 30 yrs of opiate abuse, jail, and what ended in IV drug use.Methadone has worked really well; however, the suboxone is much more economical in many ways. I'm just afraid not knowing how this medicine will react. Has anyone been through this same situation??
Not personally, but I know several people who have made the switch, and a few that have gotten clean this way. You usually need to wean down to about 30 mg's of methadone before switching.
A good site for info and 1st hand experience is www.subsux,com
It is not a pro maintenance site however.
How Can I Stay On Methadone Maintenance? Can I Get My Insurance To ...
I am an addict and an alcoholic and methadone has saved my life. Not only does it keep me clean from other opiates, it also helps me stay away from other drugs and alcohol. I work a solid recovery program but I feel I should stay on methadone forever. You wouldn't tell a diabetic to get off of insulin if they need it to live right? So how can I get my insurance to pay for this? How do people get their insurance to pay for MMT for 20 years? You don't want to stay on methadone forever.....it's still an opiate - and worse it'll rot your teeth out in no time, cause worse withdrawls than smack if you ever do get stuck without it....... have your program ween you down real slow go down 5-10mgs a month till you get down to 5 mgs, then 3, then 1 or 2 ....then you'll be free.....took over a year for my buddy to do it .....but thats the program we worked out for him - and he thought he'd be on it for life too......now he's doing great - except having to get implants for the teeth he lost to methadone..........
