How bad are methadone withdrawals and how long will they last?
Honeycomb vs. Mi Vida Loca

Hopefully you were weened off slowly. If so, you should be ok. Might be a yucky 3-4 days, but you'll be better soon.

If you are quitting cold turkey, you'll be in for some bad days. Chills, sweats, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, aches and pains and not being able to sit/or lie still.

You know, you can talk to your doctor about this. They can give you non-addictive medications to help you get through the withdrawals.

***It's not deadly. Alcohol and tranquelizers can be a deadly withdrawal if not medically monitored, but not opiates.

Methadone & Heroin

Can you share your experience with methadone? How good or bad has it affected you?
take a bite outta Rhyme!

Do you find it as a stimulant or as a sedative?

How did it affect your health?

Methadone should only be used by people trying to get off of an opiate addiction. It can just as bad for your health as heroin is. Methadone will not give you a rush. It will not make you feel up. Nor will it really sedate you. Methadone works by blocking opiate receivers in your brain. It would most likely just make you feel a little depressed.

Hope this helps!

What are the results of taking 4 or 5 pills of methadone to get high? (The bad side effects)?

It depends on several factors but Methadone is not one of the drugs you can play around with and survive for very long. peoples tolerance plays a role as does whether or ot the frug is mixed with anything. Methadone and benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Klonipin, etc.) is extremely dangerous as is methadone and alcohol. The big issue with methadone that makes it so much more dangerous than other pills when abused is its long half life. It stays in your system long after the effects have worn off so when you take more you are poisoning yourself if you don't know what your doing. Methadone is a wonderful medication when used properly for those suffering from addiction or in chronic pain but taken without a doctors supervision it can be deadly. Here is a safety page you can read that will give you things to watch for in cases of overdose. There is other info about methadone there also.

I am having bad headaches - has anyone eles had these in relation to methadone?
$kull Duggery

I have been on methadone for a while and have had a few of the know side effects such as sweating but I have never had headaches - they started when I last dropped my dose - any suggestions?

Your body is going into a sort of withdrawal from the Methadone. My aunt went through the same thing. When the dose is lowered your body isn't used to it. The same thing will actually happen with coffee addicts too. It's completely normal and should subside in a few weeks when your body adjusts to the lower dose.

How bad will withdrawls be from methadone. After being on for 10 years?
Non-Supportive Housing

Basicly due to self choice and some finacial probs, My mother is going to end her methadone this friday. She has xanexx to take along with some pain pills to help with the withdrawls. But can u tell me whats to be expected. We do know that she could do this from rehab but no insurance to cover it. And the clinc that she was in is a total ass and will not withdrawl her (which is VERY wrong). So can u tell me whats to be expected and how long it will last..... thank u

I hope she is not planning to jump from a large dose. I don't think it's feasible if her dose is more than say 10 mg a day. Even then, withdrawals can be pretty difficult if she's been on methadone for ten years.

Depending on her dose, she can expect several weeks of typical opiate withdrawal symptoms, sleeplessness, cramps, diarrhea and cravings. The chance of relapsing into heroin use is very high, and if she's taking Xanax as well she is at risk of overdosing.

Stopping methadone suddenly is almost never successful. The best way of coming off is to reduce the dose slowly, say by 5 mg per week, down to about 20 to 30 mg and then switch to buprenorphine under medical supervision. The switch needs to be done carefully, because it can set off moderately severe withdrawal symptoms if it's done at the wrong time.

Methadone is bad for you - Drugs.com

I want to apologise to anyone who gets offened but i am hearing to many good things about methadone . Methadone clinics are a way for businessmen to make money and alot of it. I have been using methadone for over 7 years and have tried to get off this stuff many times. I finally found a site that told me what i was doing wrong. Nutrition is the key, Dr. David Arenson has a site about methadone and nutrition, he tells you what methadone does to the body and why the body goes into withdrawals and it all makes sense, at first I was skeptical and leary but i went to the healthfood store and bought what he said to take I was at 120mgs per day now down to 45 and going down rapidly the longer i take the vitamins and amino acids the faster i can go down. Now I for one almost live only on what vitamins I take and have finally lost some of the weight that i have put on because of methadone. Its a degrading process to stand in line and wait for my daily dose, and the moment i told my counselor i wanted...
