His life has been really destroyed, and so many specialist have been visited by him. I do not know the effects of Ritalin, but I heard that it is so dangerous. Please help me
First, read up about these two medication at these webpages:
Ritalin
http://www.nida.nih.gov/Infofacts/Ritali n.html
Methadone
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drugi nfo/medmaster/a682134.html
He should talk with his physician about ways to lessen his dependence on these medications; but he has to want to do something about it himself. That's where it has to begin.
For now, what you can do is to give your brother all the loving support he needs, especially if he's living with medical conditions which require him to take these medications. Do not get on his case or nag him about his use of these drugs. That will not help him at all.

It depends on several factors but Methadone is not one of the drugs you can play around with and survive for very long. peoples tolerance plays a role as does whether or ot the frug is mixed with anything. Methadone and benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Klonipin, etc.) is extremely dangerous as is methadone and alcohol. The big issue with methadone that makes it so much more dangerous than other pills when abused is its long half life. It stays in your system long after the effects have worn off so when you take more you are poisoning yourself if you don't know what your doing. Methadone is a wonderful medication when used properly for those suffering from addiction or in chronic pain but taken without a doctors supervision it can be deadly. Here is a safety page you can read that will give you things to watch for in cases of overdose. There is other info about methadone there also.

methadose which is pretty much the same as methadone. they use it in methadone clinics, does that and methadone show up on a standard 5 panel test. i hear it doesn't i'd just like to know the answer for sure tho. thank you
No methadone does not appear as an opiate on a 5 panel drugs screen or any other drug screen. Drugs on a 5 panel screen include Amphetamines (including Methamphetamine, "Crystal Meth"), Cannabinoids (THC, Marijuana), Cocaine, Opiates (Codeine, Morphine, Heroin, Oxycodone, Vicodin, etc.), & Phencyclidine (PCP).
Methadone does not cross react with the standard opiate drug screen. It must be specifically screened for. Most "drug tests" are really "drug screens". That is, they only show that there is a probability that a substance similar to a particular drug is present in a sample. However, even though methadone and heroin are both "opioids" and have similar effects, their chemical structures are very different. For this reason, methadone does not react with the drug screens used to look for heroin. Therefore treatment programs use separate screens for methadone and heroin-type opioids (such as morphine and codeine).Opium is a black, gooey extract of the opium poppy (papaver somniferum). The main active ingredients in opium are the drugs morphine and codeine. These and other drugs found in or manufactured from opium are called "opiates". Heroin is made from morphine so it is also an opiate.
There are also drugs with effects like those of morphine but which are manufactured entirely in a laboratory. Methadone is an example of such a man-made drug. The term "opioid" is used to describe all these synthetic drugs as well as the 'natural' opiates. In other words, morphine, codeine, heroin, and methadone are all "opioids", but only morphine, codeine, and heroin are "opiates."
Please help to let me know what i am up against.
If you have been on 85 mgs for 5 years I would suggest taking a very long detox to ensure the least amount of discomfort. My ex-husband took about 1 year to detox off of 90 mgs. And he fared pretty well, his withdrawal symptoms were very minimal but he did suffer some insomnia for a few months after. Anyway I have been a methadone patient myself for 14 years and if I ever decide to detox I will take it very slowly or use bupronephrine. I have been told by many of my friends who have done it that bupronephrine is the way to go, completely painless. If you can find a program that offers it what they will do is detox you to 30 mgs of methadone and then start bupronephrine and finish the detox with that. there are no withdrawals at all with this method. Good luck!
