I have just recently talked to my brother, who happens to be in Pennsylvania. I have learned that he is now an alcoholic, and he started drinking when his wife left him. I didn't even know that they're separated already, and have been for months now. I was really surprised to hear about this. It has been really hard for my brother. He's asking for my help on how he can get himself treated for his addiction, and I want to find an addiction treatment center for him. How will I get to do this?
It's pretty easy to find alcohol rehabs. The links below can help you in your search. You can also ask your brother to go to a doctor to have himself checked up. That way, the doctor can give him recommendations as to which alcohol rehabs he can get himself treated. I really hope your brother gets well soon. Things must be really tough for him. Just continue on being there for him. Your support and encouragement would really matter much.

If someone has a cardiac arrest resulting from alcoholic poisoning could you still successfully resuscitate that person and what will the EKG show at that moment?
Being dead simply isn't good for your health. Under any circumstances, resuscitation in the field is unlikely, but here you're probably talking about either a respiratory arrest and the subsequent respiratory acidosis and hypoxemia, a straightforward alcoholic (metabolic) acidosis, or both. In theory, the rhythm is fairly likely to be ventricular fibrillation, and there's some reasonable chance for a successful outcome if the arrest doesn't occur before arrival of EMS on scene.
Drinking is killing him. He wakes up sick from phlem caused by drinking.
Valley Hope also has in-patient facilites at Norton and Halstead. They really are a very good facility.
However, does he want to go? If he does then great! If he does not, then don't hang all of your hopes on finding a facility.
Whether he goes or not, you should get help for yourself. Living with alcoholism makes us crazy. Our thinking gets distorted and we think we can control the alcoholic. We cannot.
I strongly suggest finding an Alanon meeting in your area. They will not tell you how to deal with the alcoholic, but rather help you figure out how to live a much more sane and serene life, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not.
Then, he may be more willing to get help for himself. But regardless, you will be healthier and happier.
Good luck to you. You are not alone!
I would love to have an intervention for her. She has been drinking and damaging not her life but the lives of others for too long. Where do I begin. She doesn't have any health insurance or money? What do I do?
It is very hard. My mother in law actually drank herself to death. We tried doctors, counseling, etc nothing worked. She had a doctor tell her that if she didn't stop she will die. She quit for about 6 months and started up again, went into cardiac arrest, intensive care and then died. Alcohol poisoning.I would suggest to go to Al anon. or Alateen. They would give you lots of suggestions. Good luck to you and especially to her.
We were asked to do a research about the different activities included in a alcoholic treatment program. I'm really interested in the project and I want to come up with the best report in our class. I'm planning to conduct interviews with alcoholic patients, therapists and counselors. Does anybody know of a great alcohol treatment facility here in Hudson?
There are websites which contains a list of rehabilitation and treatment facilities for alcohol and drug abusers. I've posted some of them. Please check them out to see if there's one in Hudson. I also added some links to sites with information about alcoholism. Good luck with your research and I hope you get an A+.

Rant-o-rama: The sheriff vs common sense | Depression On My Mind
Last week our local sheriff - reacting to a demand to cut $3 million from his proposed $480 budget - threatened to cut a successful substance-abuse treatment program before cutting deputies. In other words, if the sheriff doesn’t get what he wants he will put alcoholics and drug addicts back on the street before he takes deputies off the street.
This kind of political extortion is inhumane, illogical and demonstrates the sheriff’s ignorance of substance abuse and mental illness. According to the sheriff, ”I only have two options. Cut deputy sheriffs … or cut programs that I’m not mandated to do.”
Many, if not most, inmates with substance abuse problems also suffer from other mental illnesses. It’s called dual-diagnosis. Their addictions and companion illnesses - such as bipolar - have reached the stage where they are committing crimes to self-medicate, support their habits or because they have completely lost their ability to control their impulses.
